People

Our people pillar is about ensuring we attract and retain the very best employees. We have established three focus areas to work on which we have identified as important in the motivation and engagement of our employees.

Our three focus areas

STAR Academy

Provide learning and development opportunities

Culture

Provide a safe and positive work environment

Community benefit

Support community actions

Medium-term targets

·       Improve our employee engagement score by 2.5% year on year

·        Goal of zero harm

·        Undertake diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) activities aligned to our Group DEI programme

·         Support local community causes

STAR Academy

We believe our employees thrive when they can work on their personal development and enhance their skill set. We recognise it’s important to provide a combination of on-the-job training, self-led learning and live training sessions.

STAR Academy will help us teach people how to improve processes through Continuous Improvement how to experiment, and we’re going to train people on how to develop strategy and drive action.

Other ways we provide learning and development opportunities

Professional Development Programme (PDP)

Our annual PDP programme aims to identify and support the next generation of internal talent to contribute to the business beyond the scope of their current roles. Participants set personal development targets and work with a mentor from our leadership team, who is a source of advice during the year.

Mentoring

Our annual mentoring programme connects a mentee with a mentor who can support their development and provide advice to work towards their career aims. This programme is open to all employees.

Culture

We are focused on providing a safe and positive workplace for all.

Values

Our core values are the things that are most important to us as a business and as individuals: the behaviours we want to encourage, the standards we hold ourselves to and the characteristics we display when we’re at our best. In 2023 we launched our new vision, mission and FIERCE values which were developed with inputs from employee feedback.

Health and safety

Our goal is zero harm and we actively promote a safety culture. We have mandatory training and policies in place for all production employees on workplace safety and provide safety and environmental training tailored to their specific roles.

Wellbeing

The health and wellbeing of our employees is important to us and we provide wellbeing programmes in the UK and US. Employees also enjoy participating in sports activities and events supported by Avon.

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)

We are committed to the fair treatment and full participation of all people and recognise diversity provides a better culture for all. The Group’s Code of Conduct sets out our expected behaviours including zero tolerance of harassment, bullying or discrimination in any form, our human rights policy and our process for raising concerns. We conduct mandatory training on the Code of Conduct annually.

Employee engagement

Maintaining high levels of communication with all employees is important across the Group. Throughout the year, our Executive Committee regularly visits all sites and host townhalls to provide an update on performance, strategy and future focus areas.

Feedback

We undertake an annual Employee Opinion Survey and pulse surveys which provides employees with the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback and suggest improvements.

Community benefit

We focus on community actions with a demonstrable link to our business and stakeholders, where we believe we can have the greatest impact.

Across our sites, our employees demonstrate incredible generosity and dedication to making an impact in our local communities. Taking part in sporting fundraisers, organised community events, supported food collections and attended career days. We support employees who contribute to community initiatives and have a charitable giving programme in place through which employees can request donations or match funding. This programme enables us to provide donations to local causes that matter to our employees.

Gender pay gap reporting
